WILLIAMSTOWN — National Grid is alerting customers across the region, including Williamstown, to a recent rise in reports of utility scams, after a door-to-door incident in neighboring Clarksburg in which someone posing as a salesperson asked to see a resident's utility bill.

National Grid issued the warning late Thursday, September 18, urging customers to be on guard following an uptick in scam reports. The utility specifically flagged the Clarksburg incident, in which door-to-door solicitors asked residents to produce their bills, a tactic scammers can use to harvest account information. The town posted the alert to its News Flash feed the same day.
