Margaret Lindley Park Swimming Area Closed Indefinitely Over Bacterial Levels
The town's popular Margaret Lindley Park swimming area was shuttered Wednesday after water testing revealed a high bacterial count, with no reopening date set — a significant notice for residents heading into the July 4th holiday week.

The Board of Health posted an alert Wednesday afternoon confirming that the Margaret Lindley Park swimming area is closed as of June 24 due to elevated bacterial levels. The closure is indefinite, with retesting required before the area can reopen. Residents planning summer recreation should check the town's News Flash page at williamstownma.gov for updates before heading out.
The Town Clerk's office is also operating on reduced hours through Monday, June 29, open only from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Monday (June 25, 26, and 29).
On the civic education front, the town released two new Citizens Academy recordings this week. Community and Economic Development Director Andrew Groff addressed the May 2026 session, walking attendees through his department's work. COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Williamstown Public Library announced the full Summer Reading lineup for 2026. Residents who stop in before the kickoff event to register will receive five extra entries toward the grand prize drawing. Details are available at the library during open hours.
The town's Eyes on Art Town initiative — a partnership with the Williamstown Cultural District — is accepting artist submissions through July 6. Selected works will appear on streetlight banners along Spring and Latham Streets this fall.
